CROWDSOURCING AND THREADLESS

CROWDSOURCING AND THREADLESS :

In today's world, everyone is using a digital platform for a everything. Today, the concept of digitalization has gained importance in our life. By considering the same, many of the businesses started creating their online reputation. Because the concept digitalization is useful not only the customers but also the businessmen and entrepreneurs. By taking this into a consideration, Jeff Howe defined a concept of "CROWDSOURCING". Now let's see what is Crowdsourcing?
In simple words Crowdsourcing is the practice of obtaining information or input into a task or project by enlisting the services of a large number of people, either paid or unpaid, typically via the Internet. In 2006, Joff Howe defined the concept of Crowdsourcing and then in the same year a small scale T-shirt printing firm Threadless, incorporated in 2000, made $18 Billion of profit and 35% of it was from this new concept called Crowdsourcing. It also sold 60,000 T-shirts a month in a same year. Let's see how Threadless exactly implemented this strategy of crowdsourcing and how did he make a success.
By taking the concept of Crowdsourcing in consideration, Threadless started posting an ad for customers through the website containing an offer to suggest the best design and win a cash prize. The biggest advantage is a firm gets a readymade design for their product and they also wins customer satisfaction and loyalty. In year 2006, when Threadless implemented Crowdsourcing strategy, they received 150 design submissions a day and had over 400,000 registered users who voted on which shirts would get made. In 2007, the owner of th firm noted, “every design printed has sold out” since the site launched, and the company opened a Chicago retail store. Threadless’s 10th anniversary in 2010 resulted in a retrospective book and fast company noting: “the T-shirt company has capitalized on a buzz that never seems to fade.”
When an artist submits a design, they tell everyone they know to go vote on it, and then those people join the community and it snowballs. At first, the cash prize was $750 plus $250 in free T-shirts from the site. Now the prize has rose to $2,500 in cash and merchandise.
Though this concept seems to be very useful, it also has some disadvantages. Threadless selects only one design over 1000 submissions. So there is a great risk of the dissatisfaction of a customer whose submissiong are not getting selected even if updating it for many times and thus may result in loss of customer loyalty. This is one of the biggest challenge in crowdsourcing as it may badly affect the business. But it is always said that a profit is nothing but a reward of taking risk and a good entrepreneur always run a business by managing its risks and making continuous innovations. And this is a reason why Threadless, a small scale startup is now a successful business firm.

Then how do these people run such illegal business? How is our government allowing such businesses in India? Is the government bribed for this? Is our government corrupt?   A bunch of questions may have arrived in your mind after reading this. But what if I say the stash they are offering is not a weed and the paper is not harmful but both the things are made of Ayurveda. Yes, you read it right. A start-up owned by three brothers in delhi is actually offering Ayurvedic joints and cigarettes which are helping thousands of the people to avoid their tobacco or a drug intake.  Piyush Chhabraa and his two brothers Nitin and Gautam were worried about...

THE GLOBAL BUSINESS DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT A NY INTERMEDIARY

THE GLOBAL BUSINESS DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT ANY  INTERMEDIARY  Imagine, you are the owner of a global business firm. You want to reach all worldwide customers. Is it possible for you to reach all of them without any middleman? No? Two engineers from America had already made it possible in July 2003. A well known car manufacturing firm TESLA has been following “no middleman” strategy since 2003. Is it strange to hear that a well known brand Tesla doesn't have a single distributor till now? So, let’s discuss their story.  Tesla is an american multinational vehicle company based in California. Two engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning discovered this business in July 2003. The company’s name is tribute to a great inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla . Right now Elon Musk is a CEO of Tesla, one of the three employees who are named as co-founders of the company.  One of two unique features of Tesla is that Tesla manufactures an electric chargeable motor v...

THE FIRST BANNER AD EVER

The First Banner Ad Ever  Have you ever heard of banner ads? Not the one which we used to see on public highways or at roadsides but the ads which we always see on the internet like pop up ads arrive when we are surfing through any blog or a youtube video. For instance, a square or a rectangular box containing a picture and a text message like “Jumbo Sale. Upto 80% off.” with a linked text “Buy Now” that redirects you to the page containing the company's offerings. Now-a-days banner ads are so common. But around 25 years ago, an American multinational firm AT&T posted it for the first time in 1994. Let’s see how the first banner ad of AT&T looked like.  The first ever banner ad was of a well known American multinational firm AT&T which was posted on hotwired.  On 27th October, 1994. It was the first paid ad to provide Click-through-rate reports of the customers. It was a rectangular banner or a box containing a text “Have you ever clicked your mouse HER...
